The Fourth Life She Guarded Me Chapter 47

She had no interest in that. The only thing she asked was:

“When can we go back and eat?”

I reached up and pinched her nose.

“Is there anything in your head besides food?”

“No. If I can’t eat, what’s the point of being alive?”

“You are eating right now.”

“What I want to eat now isn’t just your life force.”

She lowered her head and lightly bit my ear.

“Meredith, you need to give me something more delicious.”

“Then you need to behave.”

“Tch.”

Paloma lifted her head and gave a cold snort.

“You don’t seriously think I’m going to be your dog, do you, Meredith?”

“That’s funny, coming from someone who has never once treated me like a master.”

I tilted my head at her.

“From the beginning, you’ve only ever treated me like food. You haven’t even treated me like a person.”

“You’re complaining that I eat too much.”

“I didn’t say that.”

“Meredith, if I want to eat you, I’ll eat you whenever I want. However I want. You have no right to refuse.”

“If I really have no right, then why aren’t you carrying me home right now to keep eating?”

She stared at me.

Dark light moved slowly in her violet eyes.

“Because you’re annoying when you cry.”

She paused, her voice dropping slightly.

“And then I have to coax you.”

“You don’t love seeing me cry?”

“…”

“See? You can’t even keep your own story straight.”

She suddenly laughed, and there was something sharp in it.

Her hand pinched my waist hard.

“Anyway, I’m not your dog.”

She pressed close to my ear and said it through gritted teeth.

I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her gently on the cheek.

“Fine. Not my dog.”

I softened my voice to coax her.

“When this is over, once we go back, I’ll let you eat something delicious. You can eat me however you want.”

She was silent for a long time.

At last, she squeezed out one word from between her teeth.

“Hmph.”
