From A Humiliating Bet To The Boss He Can’t Have Chapter 08

Grant took a sharp step toward her.

“The second time, who told me Mara wanted to go to Chicago so she could pressure me into buying an apartment in Boston with only her name on it?”

At last, Sloane’s face changed. “I was just saying it was one possibility.”

“Every time, it was ‘just one possibility’ with you?”

Grant turned toward the others, his eyes reddening.

“She dropped an important meeting to rush to the school, and you all treated her like a test subject. She took care of Lily for three years, and then she got removed from the emergency contact list. She gave up two promotions for this family, and all of you said she just couldn’t bear to lose a rich lifestyle.”

Every sentence was an indictment of himself.

“What exactly did she ever take from me?”

No one spoke.

Grant pointed at one of them. “You tell me. The secondary card for the family trust, the apartment deed, the Porsche—which one did she ever touch?”

The man answered with difficulty, “None of them. And the jewelry and the car—you were the one who offered them. She never asked.”

The room sank into a dead silence.

Four years of slander suddenly looked as absurd as a bad joke.

Grant slowly turned back to Sloane, his anger finally breaking free.

“So from the beginning, this was all you.”
