You Told Me To Walk So I Walked Right Out Of Your Lives Chapter 26

The next day, the video from the anniversary celebration was everywhere.

Santoro Corporation’s partners withdrew one after another, and the board suspended Ronan from his position.

They had wanted to use me to whitewash their past.

Instead, they personally forced everyone to watch a replay.

Half a month later, Ronan came to my studio.

After graduation, I hadn’t joined Santoro Corporation.

A few classmates and I had rented a small studio.

During the day, we took on portrait and design work. At night, we tutored local students.

The tin box that had once held my coins sat by the window.

It was old now, the corners still dented from where it had been kicked.

Ronan stood in the doorway and saw it at once.

He was silent for a long time.

“You still have it.”

“It’s mine.”

He lowered his head.

“I’m sorry.”

I continued organizing the brushes on my table.

“Is that what you came here to say?”

“The board asked me to leave. The company is being sold.”

His voice was hoarse.

“Mom and Dad fight every day. Mom says they were so foolish. Dad says Sofia deceived them.”

“Then they blame me. They blame me for not doing enough all these years.”

I paused.

“They still don’t get it.”

“What?”

“When they handed me over, all of them were in the car. When I was in the lake, all of you were standing on the shore.”

The last bit of color drained from Ronan’s face.
