The Capo’s Daughter Needs No Permission Chapter 09

My father, mother, Marco, and Ava got out of the car.

At that same moment, my mother received a banking notification that I had confirmed the five-thousand-dollar transfer.

She visibly relaxed.

To her, as long as I accepted the money, I was still accepting the Vitale family’s terms.

She pressed the voice-message button on her phone.

“Romy, we’re at the school gate.”

“After your speech, let’s go out for dinner, then we can see whatever movie you want.”

“In a few days, I’ll take some time off and we’ll go to the Caribbean. Just you and me.”

She was about to say more.

A system notification popped up in the family chat.

*Romy Vitale has left the group chat.*

My mother stared at the screen.

Even Marco looked like he couldn’t believe it.

“What does that mean?”

“How can she leave the family group?”

He immediately tried to call me.

When his name flashed on my screen, I knew the moment had finally come.

I answered.

His voice was an immediate assault.

“What the hell are you doing?”

“We all came down to the school, and you won’t even come out to see us?”

“You get into Westbridge and suddenly you’re too good for this family? Too good for the Family’s rules?”

I didn’t say anything.

My mother took the phone from him.

Her voice wasn’t as hard as it usually was.

“Romy, why did you leave the group?”

“I know I’ve neglected you. I understand if you’re angry.”

“Where are you now? Let’s find somewhere quiet to talk.”

I looked at my own reflection in the rearview mirror.

They had another, smaller group chat with Ava that I had never been a part of.

I didn’t mention it.

“The speech is over. You don’t need to be here.”

“And I’m not going back to that house.”
