The Capo’s Daughter Needs No Permission Chapter 11
On the other end of the line, Marco swore.
“What the hell is she talking about?”
My father stood at the school gate, his face a dark thundercloud.
Just then, Ms. Albright came out of the school, carrying her bag after finishing her work for the day.
Marco recognized her and strode over.
“You’re Romy’s college counselor?”
“She gave a graduation speech today. Why didn’t you notify us? We’re her family. We’re responsible for her safety.”
Ms. Albright looked at him, then at my father and mother.
“So you must be Romy’s parents and brother.”
Her gaze fell on Ava.
“And this must be Ava.”
She gestured toward the coffee shop across the street.
“If you’re willing, I think we should talk for a few minutes.”
When the server came to their table, Ms. Albright asked only for a glass of water.
She didn’t bother with small talk.
“Ordinarily, I would never interfere in a student’s family affairs.”
“But Romy’s situation has already affected her health, her housing, and her academic future. So I’m going to be blunt: you have all done a terrible job.”
Ms. Albright didn’t stop there.
She looked at Ava.
“You lost your parents. You absolutely deserve sympathy. And it’s a wonderful thing that the Ferraro Family is willing to assume responsibility for your protection.”
“But one child’s protection should not be paid for by sacrificing another child.”
