The Capo’s Daughter Needs No Permission Chapter 16
I stared at the attachment, not opening it right away.
Ten minutes later, Marco sent another email.
*Ava just uploaded a video.*
*She’s saying everything was our decision and that she never asked for anything.*
*Romy, I’m giving you the chat logs. Do whatever you want with them.*
I closed my email and opened Ava’s Instagram.
She was sitting in front of the camera in a soft white sweater, her eyes red and swollen.
She looked just as innocent and vulnerable as she had when she was a little girl.
“I know Romy has never liked me.”
“She has parents, a brother, and the Vitale name. I have nothing, so I’ve always cherished the warmth Aunt Maria’s family gave me.”
“Those permission slips were just a silly family game from when we were kids. As for the five thousand dollars, Aunt Maria returned it to her the moment she realized there was a misunderstanding.”
“And the surgery… we honestly didn’t know she was that sick.”
She paused, dabbing at her eyes.
“Romy’s college counselor has always disliked us.”
“I don’t know what she said to Romy to make her hate her own family, to convince her to take private matters and spread them all over the internet.”
The comments quickly filled with people rushing to her defense.
Some said that as a protected orphan living in a capo’s house, she would have to be especially careful and would never dare to actively take things.
Some asked me, if I was so desperate for money, why had I refused the bank card Marco brought me?
Others dug up Ms. Albright’s name and flooded the school’s website with accusations that she was turning students against their families.
