I Died The Day My Husband’s Girlfriend Did A Magic Trick. Chapter 15
In the hospital, my mother slowly opened her eyes.
The first thing she saw was the white ceiling, then the police officer standing by her bed.
“Mrs. Hawthorne, you’re awake.”
She was very weak, her voice a hoarse whisper.
“My daughter?”
“Where is Meredith?”
The officer was silent for a moment before taking a document from his bag.
“I’m sorry for your loss.”
“Your daughter, Meredith Walker, has been confirmed as the victim of a homicide.”
My mother’s eyes widened.
Her lips trembled. Tears spilled down her cheeks, but she couldn’t form a single word.
I drifted over, wanting to hug her the way I used to.
“Mom, don’t cry.”
“I’m here.”
But she couldn’t hear me.
All she could do was clutch the bedsheet and weep in silence.
The case moved quickly after that.
There was too much evidence.
Faced with it, neither Josephine nor Caius could hold out.
To reduce their own sentences, they began desperately pushing the blame onto each other.
The police pulled the backstage surveillance footage from the theater.
The footage was perfectly clear.
It showed Josephine first taking out the spring-loaded prop knife, then slipping a real, sharpened blade into its place.
After she was done, she even checked her hair in the mirror.
Caius’s phone was unlocked, too.
His entire iMessage history with Josephine was recovered.
