I Died The Day My Husband’s Girlfriend Did A Magic Trick. Chapter 18
Six months later.
On the day of the trial, the courtroom gallery was nearly full.
My mother sat in the front row.
Six months had passed. She had lost a great deal of weight, and her hair had gone almost completely white.
But her eyes were steady and cold.
After the gavel fell, Josephine, as the principal offender, was sentenced to death.
When she heard the verdict, her legs gave way, and she collapsed against the defendant’s table.
She clutched the railing and screamed, “I don’t accept this!”
“I’m going to appeal!”
“Caius made me do it! Why am I the only one getting the death penalty?”
Court officers quickly moved in and pulled her up.
She struggled the whole way, her fingernails leaving bloody scratches on an officer’s arm.
As she was dragged past Caius, she spat in his face.
“You useless bastard.”
“Even if I die, I’ll take you with me.”
Caius didn’t wipe it away.
He sat there motionless, like a statue.
His hair had gone significantly grayer, and he had grown terribly thin.
As an accomplice, he was sentenced to life in prison without parole for his role in the murder and disposal of the body.
The judge continued reading, but Caius seemed to hear none of it.
His gaze passed over the judge, past the gallery, and landed on a small figure in the last row.
Leo.
