I Died The Day My Husband’s Girlfriend Did A Magic Trick. Chapter 19
A social worker had brought him there.
Leo wore an old coat that was clearly too small, curled up in his seat, still clutching that faded teddy bear.
His eyes were red, and his lips were pressed into a tight line.
From beginning to end, he never once looked at Caius.
Caius opened his mouth, as if to call out to him.

She stopped in front of Caius, took a photograph from her pocket, and gently placed it on the table.
It was a picture taken on the day I graduated from college.
I was wearing a white dress, standing at the school gate, smiling.
My mother looked at Caius. Her voice was soft but firm.
“Caius.”
“For the rest of your life, you don’t deserve to see her smile again.”
With that, she turned and walked out of the courtroom.
Caius lowered his head and looked at the photo. At last, tears fell.
But he didn’t even have the right to reach out and touch it.
A court officer soon came forward and collected everything from the table, including the photograph.
Caius was escorted out.
The hallway was long, the windows high, and sunlight poured in from above.
He instinctively raised his head.
The light was too bright, stabbing his eyes so hard he had to squeeze them shut.
In that disorienting glare, he thought he saw me again.
I stood in the light, wearing that white dress.
I wasn’t smiling. I was just looking at him.
“Meredith…”
He raised his cuffed hands, trying to grasp something.
But there was nothing before his eyes but blinding white.
