My Mother’s Perfect AI Lied And Left Me For Dead Chapter 39

A few years later, my daughter started middle school.

Her school had health apps and learning systems, but no device could decide if she was lying.

One day after PE, she went to the office saying her chest felt uncomfortable.

The school nurse didn’t start by pulling up data from her wristband.

She sat my daughter down, listened to her, and then called me.

The checkup found nothing serious. My daughter had only run too hard without eating breakfast.

On the drive home, she looked embarrassed.

“If I’d known I was just hungry, I wouldn’t have said anything.”

“Why not?”

“I was scared people would think I was making a big deal out of nothing.”

I pulled the car over and turned to look at her.

“Whether pain turns out to be a disease and whether it hurt at the time are two different things.”

“So every time I say something hurts, you’ll believe me?”

“I’ll listen, and I’ll check. You do not have to prove you deserve care.”

My daughter nodded.

When we got home, she was scolded for skipping breakfast and sat at the table to finish her dinner.

No one took love away because of her mistake.

Later, Westley left the community center due to illness.

He didn’t ask me to see him one last time. He only left me one sentence.

“The door I didn’t open that day, I will never open. Thank you for letting me know the child on the other side still found a home where someone was waiting.”

I read the sentence, then handed it to my husband to keep.

I did not rush off to play the role of his daughter.
