Westley You Are Late Chapter 16
Even now, he could still say something like that.
As if I were still standing in the same place I’d always been, just waiting for him to turn around and casually offer me marriage.
I didn’t linger to hear more, instead turning down another hallway.
Fifteen minutes later, I returned to the main ballroom.
The moment I stepped inside, I spotted Thatcher across the room.
He stood out from the crowd in his perfectly tailored suit.
I saw him immediately.
A smile touched my lips as I gathered my skirt and started toward him.
I had only taken two steps when someone blocked my path.
Westley stood before me, his gaze so intense it was almost frightening.
Then, to the collective gasp of everyone around us, he dropped to one knee.
He opened the navy velvet box in his hand. A massive diamond glittered under the chandeliers.
“Brielle.”
The moment he spoke, the entire ballroom fell silent.
“We were together for five years. And in those five years, I let you down more times than I can count.”
He looked up at me, his eyes dark and compressed with emotion.
“But this time, I’m serious.”
His voice was steady, but I could see the desperation he was trying to hide.
“Give me one last chance. Marry me, okay?”
“I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you.”
The room erupted in whispers.
Dozens of eyes turned to me.
I looked down at the face I had once loved, the face that had caused me so much pain, and all I felt was tired.
“Westley, I’m going to say this one last time. I am already married. Please, stop this.”
He acted as if he hadn’t heard me. “I know what you said before was just out of anger. The past is the past. We can start over—”
“Mr. Ferraro.”
A low, calm voice cut through his words from behind.
It wasn’t loud, but it carried an unmistakable weight that silenced the room.
The crowd parted instinctively.
Thatcher walked toward us, unhurried, his posture impeccable.
There was a polite smile on his face, but his eyes were cold.
He came to my side, slid an arm around my waist, and only then did he look down at Westley.
“You want to marry my wife. Did you ask for my permission first?”
