Surprise! My Alpha Mate’s Secret Pups Were Never HIS Chapter 01
Twenty years ago, my Alpha mate held me and said he didn’t want pups.
Now? I find twin pups’ names on a territory contract. HIS. Born to some Omega she-wolf.
I took the contract to him. He didn’t even look up. “I just wanted an heir,” he said.
Ha.
Twenty years I was called a barren she-wolf. Twenty years I bled for his Pack, rebuilt it from nothing. And this is what I get?
I didn’t cry. Didn’t scream. Just said:
“I’m done.”
And I walked.
He thought he won? Big mistake.
Turns out those twins he’s been protecting like treasure? NOT HIS BLOOD.
Next time he sees me, I’m the Alpha of the pack a hundred times his size.
And him? On his knees in the border mud, begging me to come back and give him pups.
Too late for that, Alpha. I don’t want to be your Luna anymore.
But your land? Every inch of it. I’m taking it all.
—
Twenty years ago, on our Bonding night, Magnus held me and said he didn’t want pups.
I didn’t even think twice. Went to the pack healer the next day and had the fertility procedure done.
Twenty years later, I found an encrypted blood inheritance contract buried in pack’s core files.
I stared at those two names. My claws nearly tore through the document.
Born ten years ago. Twins.
And my in-laws, Aldric and Elara? They knew the whole time.
That’s why they stopped forcing those nasty herbs down my throat ten years back.
That’s why they packed up and “retired” to Veridian Pack. They were going to raise the pups.
So I found Magnus in the pack hall, still in some meeting.
I walked up and slammed the file in front of him. My hands were shaking. He looked up from his chair, face blank.
“Explain.”
He sighed, like I was being difficult.
“Freya’s mother was dying. She wanted to see her daughter have pups before she went. Freya begged me—said she was an unmated Omega, no Alpha, nothing. I just helped her fulfill her mother’s wish.”
My eyes were burning. I growled low in my throat. “You had pups with another wolf, Magnus. And you call that ‘helping’?”
He frowned. “You know I never wanted pups. But I’m in my forties. The Pack needs an heir, doesn’t it? And relax—I don’t want Freya.”
He stood up. Still tall. Still commanding. That Alpha presence hadn’t faded.
“Sigrid, they’re my blood. You can’t expect me to pretend they don’t exist.”
He looked at me. Didn’t blink. No guilt. No shame.
I realized then—I didn’t know this wolf at all.
“If you’re going to make this a thing… I’ll take a border patrol rotation. Give you time to cool off.”
My claws dug into my palms. Drew blood.
“Magnus Nightshade. I’m breaking the bond.”
My father Edmund was the first to jump up. Smacked me across the face—hard.
“Are you crazy, Sigrid? Do you know how many she-wolves would kill for an Alpha like Magnus? You break this bond and I’m done with you!”
My brother Gareth chimed in:
“Sigrid! Do you even remember how much Alpha Nightshade has done for our family? They’re just two pups! You don’t have to hunt for them, you don’t have to raise them—how can you sever the bond over something this small?”
The wolf Elders weighed in. The Omegas called me jealous. Even my own parents told me to suck it up.
Magnus stood there in the middle of it all, looking uncomfortable. “…Sigrid, that’s not what I meant.”
My chest was so tight I couldn’t breathe. My wolf was howling inside me, raw and broken.
I tipped my head back and forced the tears down. “It doesn’t matter what you meant. You broke your vow to the Moon Goddess.”
Magnus’s face went dark. “Sigrid, we’ve been through twenty years of storms together. I thought you’d understand me. I was just keeping a promise I made to Freya. Those pups are a responsibility, not love. You don’t need to be jealous.”
His voice was calm. Reasonable. Like he was the one who’d been wronged. Like I was the petty one.
I closed my eyes.
Twenty years ago at training camp, a bunch of wolf pups set me up. Magnus stood up for me, putting himself between them and me, baring his teeth. That’s when I fell for him.
A year after graduation, Nightshade Pack fell apart. His half-brother and some rogue wolves cooked up a fake land deal and stole half his territory.
I quit my job with the other pack and joined Nightshade’s land management. We visited every pack we could, begging for alliances.
Cup after cup, I drank moonbrew until my stomach bled. I patrolled the borders day and night. It took five years to build Nightshade back up.
On our bonding night, he held me and said he didn’t want pups. His half-brother had scarred him too deep, he said. Those backstabbing whelps would do anything for land. He didn’t want his own blood caught up in that mess.
So I went to the pack healer the next day and got fixed.
A year later, the elders started pushing for pups. I dropped a fertility report on the table and took all the heat myself.
Elara started having them brew herbs for me every day. My wolf trembled from the bitterness.
Magnus held me at night. “Sigrid, let’s just tell them the truth. This drinking is destroying your wolf.”
I looked at him. “Are you sure you can handle the pressure? To them, ‘won’t have’ and ‘can’t have’ aren’t the same thing. If you’re ready, I’m ready.”
He hesitated.
I told him that day: “One day, when you’re ready for pups, I’ll go see a pack healer. We’ll have our own pups.”
He nodded. “Okay.”
Ten years ago, Elara suddenly stopped forcing the herbs on me. Aldric stopped talking about heirs. They moved to Veridian Pack.
The day they left, Elara smiled at me. “Take good care of the pack,” she said. I thought they’d finally come around.
Turns out they hadn’t come around.
Turns out Nightshade Pack already had heirs.
Twins.
