Among All The Stars I Found You Chapter 24
After Juliette left, the house became much quieter.
But there was still one thing between Preston and me that hadn’t been resolved.
That night, I set a bowl of soup in front of him.
He looked at the soup, then looked up at me.
I knew immediately what he was thinking, and my face slowly warmed.
“There’s nothing in it this time.”
Preston didn’t smile.
He took my hand.
“Selena, what happened that night can’t happen again.”
I froze.
“No matter how afraid you are of losing me, you can’t put something in my food.”
His tone was gentle, but firm.
I lowered my head.
It wasn’t as if I hadn’t thought about this over the past few days.
I just hadn’t dared to truly face it.
“I’m sorry.”
“I was only thinking about myself.”
“You didn’t consent, and I made the choice for you anyway.”
I slowly pulled my hand back.
“If you can’t forgive me, I can—”
He tightened his hold.
“I’m not asking you to leave.”
“I’m asking you to promise me that from now on, if there’s something you want, you’ll tell me directly.”
My eyes stung.
“Then you promise me, too—don’t hide things from me again in the name of protecting me.”
“Don’t let other women live in our house.”
“And when I say I want a divorce, don’t just say, ‘We’ll talk later.'”
Preston was silent for a moment.
“Anything else?”
“Yes.”
I looked at him.
“When I’m talking, you have to let me finish.”
He nodded.
“Okay.”
We sat on opposite sides of the table and slowly said all the things we had never said in seven years.
By the time we were done, the soup had gone cold.
And he still hadn’t let go of my hand.Â
