He Accused Me Of Stealing But I Heard The Truth Chapter 22
“Her travel records—”
“Driver logs, plane tickets, hotel receipts, photos, text messages. Give me one piece of evidence.”
Rachel’s face went white.
“Back then, you said you never wanted to hear her name again.”
“Now I do.” Derek closed the file. “If you can’t produce any proof, stop mentioning him. And don’t you dare mention him in front of Maisie.”
Rachel bit her lip.
She knew Derek was no longer accepting her answers at face value.
On Saturday, Maisie was stable enough to be transferred to a regular pediatric room.
While she was napping, I went to a discount store near the hospital to buy her some winter clothes.
The temperature in Chicago was about to plummet. Even a heavy coat on the clearance rack cost more than I made in a week at the diner. I touched one several times, then put it back and chose a thinner padded jacket instead.
At checkout, Derek came down the escalator from the floor above.
He didn’t have an assistant with him, but he was carrying several bags from a luxury children’s clothing boutique.
He saw the jacket in my arms, then looked down at his own bags.
“The hospital is heated. She doesn’t need all this.”
