He Accused Me Of Stealing But I Heard The Truth Chapter 34

He paused. “That was cruel enough. But it was not an order to buy drugs, to confine her, or to steal her money.”

The prosecutor then submitted the bank originals, the property records for the shell companies, and the clinic payment records.

Not one cent of the relocation fund had ever reached me. But Rachel’s company had used that same money to cover investment losses, purchase overseas property, and rent the car that drove me to the clinic.

Her lawyer argued that the assets could still have been held in trust.

The judge asked, “If they were held in trust, why did the beneficiary never receive an activation notice in six years? And why did the trustee use the funds to pay off her own personal debts?”

The defense had no answer.

The asset freeze remained in place.

The judge also barred Rachel and her agents from transferring, selling, or mortgaging the two overseas properties.

After the hearing, Rachel stopped beside me as the bailiff led her out.

“I only did what Derek wanted, Erin,” she said, her voice a low hiss. “If he had just given me a place by his side, I never would have touched your money.”

I looked at her.

“You had so many chances to stop.”

“When you handed me that envelope, you could have stopped. When they held me down in that clinic, you could have stopped. When Maisie was admitted to intensive care, you still could have stopped.”

“Every single time, you chose to keep going.”

The tears vanished from her face, replaced by a cold fury.

“You think you’ve won because he’s standing on your side now? The Weston family will never let you keep talking before this goes to trial.”

That afternoon, my lawyer received a settlement offer from Weston Group.

They were willing to pay for a home, all of Maisie’s future medical costs, and enough compensation that I would never have to work again.

There was only one condition.

I had to sign a non-disclosure agreement, keeping everything that happened six years ago permanently confidential.
