He Deceived Me So I Destroyed His Family’s Legacy Chapter 09

He simply had too many responsibilities to put her first every time.

With that thought, Adrian’s expression finally softened.

But in the next second, he thought of Julian.

That trace of gentleness vanished.

If not for Julian, Nora would never have become like this.

If not for Julian violating Lily, she would never hate him this way.

He had promised his mother he would protect his younger brother.

But there had been a moment when he’d almost wanted to break that promise.

Someone like Julian, who lived in clubs and bars—if he died of an overdose one day, people would only say he had it coming.

And maybe then Nora would calm down.

She would know that, in the end, she was the one who was different to him.

“Adrian?”

Vanessa tugged lightly at his sleeve.

He snapped back to himself.

He realized he had been staring at the champagne for a long time.

And all he had been thinking about was Nora.

The smile in Vanessa’s eyes dimmed, but she still asked gently,

“What are you thinking about?”

Adrian lowered his gaze to the diamond bracelet on her wrist and forced the strange feeling down.

“Nothing.”

He softened his tone.

“I was just thinking that today is finally perfect.”

A smile returned to Vanessa’s face.

She picked up the other glass and shyly offered it to him.

“Then let’s drink to that.”

Adrian had just reached for it—

when frantic footsteps pounded down the hall.

In the next instant, the house manager’s voice, panicked beyond recognition, exploded from outside the door.

“Mr. Blackwood!”

“Something’s happened!”

Adrian’s brow furrowed.

“What is it?”

The man outside dropped to his knees.

“Mrs. Blackwood is gone!”

“She took Lily, the doctor, and the medicine from the side wing and escaped through a side entrance!”
