He Deceived Me So I Destroyed His Family’s Legacy Chapter 24
The next day, Adrian’s lawyer did exactly as I’d expected and went after Lily.
“Miss Hale, you were on sedative prescriptions for a long period of time, correct?”
“Yes.”
“And you experienced confusion so severe that you didn’t even recognize your own sister?”
Lily’s fingers tightened on the edge of the witness stand.
“Yes.”
The lawyer turned to the jury.
“How can someone who couldn’t recognize her own sister possibly identify who harmed her?”
A low murmur spread through the gallery.
Adrian sat at the defense table, not looking at Lily.
He wore the same calm, composed expression as always.
As if, so long as everyone believed Lily was mad, everything the Blackwoods had done could be covered up once more.
The prosecutor rose.
“Miss Hale, why were you taking those medications for so long?”
Lily looked at the doctor.
He was seated in the front row of the gallery, his hands clasped, not pressuring her.
She drew a slow breath.
“Because the Blackwoods told me they were for my treatment.”
“Who gave you the medication?”
“The caregivers.”
“Who paid for it?”
“The Blackwood Group.”
“Who forbade you from seeing your sister?”
At last, Lily looked at Adrian.
“He did.”
