He Deceived Me So I Destroyed His Family’s Legacy Chapter 25
The defense lawyer objected at once.
The judge instructed Lily to answer only from her direct experience.
She nodded.
The prosecutor placed the medication records in front of her.
Her name was there, along with dates and dosages.
Every line matched the bottles we had taken from the Blackwood estate.
“When you took these drugs, would Julian Blackwood come to you?”
The color drained from Lily’s lips.
The courtroom was so quiet you could hear a page turn.
I started to rise from my seat.
But she spoke first.
“He would.”
“When I was awake, he would come.”
“When I couldn’t wake up, he would come then, too.”
Adrian’s lawyer asked, “Do you have any evidence that Mr. Blackwood ever personally witnessed this?”
Lily lifted her head.
“The first time my sister saw me after her wedding, Julian was in the room.”
“Adrian was there too.”
“I begged them not to take me away.”
“He didn’t ask me what had happened.”
“He only said I should marry Julian.”
The prosecutor played the recording of Adrian’s own words from Cold Spring.
“The child in Lily’s belly is Julian’s.”
“Once they’re born, both should be raised by the Blackwood family.”
His voice filled the courtroom.
Clear. Controlled. Utterly devoid of hesitation.
In the jury box, someone closed their eyes.
At last, Adrian looked up.
He didn’t look at the jury.
He stared at me.
During the recess, his lawyer passed us and said under his breath, “This afternoon, they’ll ask about the night Julian died.”
Lily stopped dead.
The man smiled faintly.
“Mrs. Hale, did you really think this trial was only about Mr. Blackwood?”
