He Deceived Me So I Destroyed His Family’s Legacy Chapter 27
“They were just a few worthless lives.”
“Those people are dead. They can’t cause any more trouble.”
“And then we’ll see if she has the shame to keep on living.”
When the recording ended, the courtroom was silent.
The lawyer tried to drag the issue back to Julian.
But the judge brought down her gavel.
“The charges before this court concern the defendant’s alleged concealment of crimes, obstruction of justice, witness intimidation, and related offenses.”
“Irrelevant speculation will not be entertained.”
The lawyer sat down, his face dark.
Then Adrian suddenly spoke.
“It isn’t speculation.”
Every head turned toward him.
His lawyer hurriedly grabbed his arm.
“My client will not be speaking.”
But Adrian shook him off.
“Before Julian died, Nora went into his room.”
Lily’s face went white.
“Shut up!”
For the first time in court, she lost control.
“You hurt her, and now you want to use me to hold her hostage for the rest of her life?”
Bailiffs stepped in to restore order.
Across the room, I met Adrian’s eyes.
There was vengeance in them.
And pleading, too.
He wanted me to be afraid.
And at the same time, he looked as if he were waiting for me to bow my head.
The prosecutor rose again.
“Mr. Blackwood, you just said you knew Nora Hale entered Julian’s room.”
“If you knew that, and if you knew she had threatened murder, why didn’t you report it at the time?”
Adrian froze.
“Why, after Julian’s death, did you not demand an investigation, but instead rush to Cold Spring to claim the two children?”
“Was it because, in your eyes, your brother’s death didn’t matter, but securing a Blackwood heir did?”
Adrian’s lips moved, but no sound came out.
In that instant, he realized he had just handed the prosecutor another rope to hang himself with.
