He Deceived Me So I Destroyed His Family’s Legacy Chapter 28
On the third day, Vanessa took the stand.
She wore a plain gray suit, her face scrubbed of makeup.
The diamond bracelet that had once glittered on her wrist had been seized along with the family’s other assets.
She passed Adrian without a glance.
The prosecutor asked, “Who instructed you to deliver money to the victims’ families?”
“Adrian.”
“Who ordered the complaints to be withdrawn?”
“He did.”
Adrian gave a cold laugh.
“Vanessa, do you really think dumping everything on me will make you innocent?”
The judge warned him not to interrupt.
Vanessa’s shoulders shook. Then she turned on him.
“Wasn’t it you?”
“Every time Julian got into trouble, you told me to clean it up.”
“I told you he would destroy us one day, but you said as long as we had enough money, anyone could be bought.”
Adrian stared at her.
“But you were the one who delivered the money.”
“You were the one who looked up their addresses.”
“And in Cold Spring, you were the one who threatened Nora with prison.”
Vanessa’s face went white.
At last, they had torn away the final veil of civility, turning on each other in front of the jury.
The prosecutor didn’t rush them.
He simply laid out the records of the Blackwood Group’s settlement and funeral payments, one by one.
