I Let Her Ruin Herself Chapter 13

Before graduation, I worked my ass off and finally caught up to Hannah, who had always been first in our class. We both aced the SATs and got into Penn State.

Once school started, we were on the same campus. For the first time, I got to know her for who she was—not just the girl from my last life, hiding behind a tree with a phone.

I majored in computer science.

I knew that in a few years, vertical short-form video and personalized algorithms would revolutionize the internet.

I needed startup capital.

I didn’t remember any lottery numbers, but I remembered World Cup upsets, key players, and match outcomes.

So I got into legal fantasy sports, using my foreknowledge to build undervalued lineups. That summer, I won again and again. I also invested in tech companies I knew were about to blow up, and it didn’t take long to build the seed money for a startup.

When college began, Hannah and I finally got to live the campus life that had been stolen from us.

Around that same time, Taylor gave birth to her first daughter.

Derek’s tenderness vanished almost immediately. He complained that the baby wasn’t a boy and dumped all the childcare on Taylor and Carol.

Taylor hadn’t even fully recovered from childbirth before Derek was refusing to use contraception. She was pregnant again soon after.
