After Lefting Me On The Bridge He Lost His Mind Chapter 10
Chloe cried out from the side and rushed over, trying to pry his fingers loose.
Truett froze, then looked down at my hand.
The back of it was swelling rapidly, an angry red, with several blisters already rising on the skin.
He let go as if he’d been burned himself, his face turning white.
“Mavis… I didn’t see… I didn’t mean to…” His hands were shaking. “I’m sorry. I’ll get a nurse right now.”
“Don’t bother.”
I took a breath, suppressing the tickle in my throat, then straightened up and looked at him calmly.
Seven years ago, his startup had failed. I’d worked three jobs at once to pay his rent and help him find clients. My health had started to decline little by little from that time on.
“Truett, do you remember the worst year of your startup? There was one time I had a fever, but I still stood in the snow with you for hours, waiting for an investor.”
My voice was quiet, but it silenced him instantly.
“That investor never showed. We didn’t even have enough money for a cab. When we walked back to our basement apartment, you gave me your only coat. You held me and promised you’d never let me suffer like that again.”
I lifted my burned hand, the one still marked by the IV needle.Â
