He Cheated With My Friend My Parents Helped Chapter 31
For the first month after the protective order took effect, I still woke up in the middle of the night, my heart pounding.
Whenever the wind moved the curtains, I was sure someone was standing on the balcony.
Julian suggested I move.
I shook my head.
“This is my apartment. The person who should leave has already left.”
I had stronger locks installed on the balcony door and kept a lamp on by the bed.
Little by little, I started sleeping through the night again.
Once the new project entered its busiest phase, I was in meetings all day. Julian never interfered. He would just silently leave a sandwich outside the conference room door when I forgot to eat lunch.
My coworkers started teasing us again.
This time, I didn’t try to avoid it.
After work, in the elevator, I asked him, “What you were going to say that day—does it still stand?”
Julian, holding a folder, stared at me blankly for a few seconds.
“Which part?”
“When you said you liked that people thought we were dating.”
The tips of his ears slowly turned red.
“It still stands.”
“Then there’s no need to clear anything up.”
The elevator had already reached the ground floor, but he just stood there, forgetting to get out.
I held the door open with my hand.
“Julian, are you coming?”
He followed me out, taking a few quick steps to catch up. “Margot, do you mean—”
“I mean we can try.”
