He Sent Me Away So I Took His Crown Chapter 06

By the time the private ambulance crew fitted an oxygen mask over my face, Bianca had come running down from the second-floor lounge.

She had clearly never expected me to be carried out in front of every district leader, and her face was nearly as white as her blouse.

“How did Elena end up in the quarantine room?”

She looked first at Luca, then at Elias, tears already welling in her eyes.

“The system must have been triggered by mistake. There are so many people here today. One of the staff probably hit the wrong control.”

No one answered her.

Representatives from several families had already gathered at the backstage entrance, their faces grim.

Bianca bit her lip and stepped forward again.

“Mr. Reed, I don’t know what Elena told you, but she came here today to apologize. She’s always been bothered by my engagement to Luca, and yesterday she even threatened to destroy the auction.”

“Lark got hurt because she suddenly rushed into the breeding center.”

She raised her bandaged wrist for emphasis.

“I don’t blame her. I’m just worried she’s fooled you while she was upset.”

Elias looked up at her, his expression unreadable.

“And in what capacity are you explaining Elena’s injuries for her?”

Bianca froze.

“I’m Luca’s childhood friend, and the woman who’s about to be recognized by both our families as—”

“The ceremony hasn’t taken place. You are not Lark’s owner, you are not a shareholder in the racing business, and you are not Luca’s wife.”

His voice wasn’t loud, but it silenced the entire hallway.

“And yet, for the past eleven months, you have used her residence, the ceremony she prepared, her bloodline research, her wife’s signet ring, and the public position beside her husband.”

Bianca’s lips parted.

“Elena agreed to it.”

Elias turned to Luca.

“You lock your wife in a quarantine room, then have another woman announce her consent for her. Is that what the Moretti family calls voluntary, Luca?”

The ambulance doors swung open.

He wasted no more time.

Before getting in, he spoke to the adviser who had followed them out.

“Preserve the access logs, the broadcast records, the fumigation controls, and the site footage. Make three copies. Deliver them separately to Vittorio and to the two neutral family heads present.”

“If anyone deletes a single file, they’ll be admitting to treachery in front of every witness here.”

Luca finally caught up to the ambulance.

“Elena, I didn’t know the fumigation would turn on. I only wanted you to calm down.”

I looked at him once through the oxygen mask.

That one look used up all the strength I had left.

The doors shut in his face.
