He Left Me Broken Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 24

After the national tour ended, Jenna threw a massive celebration party.

Someone popped three bottles of champagne. Foam sprayed everywhere as people shrieked and laughed, stumbling back from the spray.

I stood in the corner, watching them all collapse into a happy, chaotic pile.

Evan came over and stood beside me. He kept his eyes on the crowd, but his words were for me.

“I just wanted to say it one more time. I like you.”

I set down my glass.

“Evan, thank you.”

“I get it.”

He smiled, an easy, genuine expression.

“I knew what your answer would be. There’s still someone else taking up space in your heart. But if I didn’t ask again, I knew I’d regret it.”

He drained his glass, raised it to me in a small toast, and disappeared back into the party.

By the time it finally wound down, it was nearly midnight.

I helped a very drunk Jenna into a car she’d called to take her to her parents’ house, her destination already plugged into the rideshare app.

A cold gust of wind swept past, carrying a flurry of tiny white flecks.

I looked up.

The first snow of the year was beginning to fall over Chicago.

A coat settled over my shoulders.

Rowan had come up behind me without a sound. He took off his own scarf and wrapped it around my neck, the soft wool covering half my face.

“Can I drive you home?”

I held out my hand, catching a single, perfect snowflake on my glove.

“Okay.”

The streets were quiet. Snowflakes drifted down, melting against the windshield.

“The snow is nice,” he said after a while.

“Mm-hmm.”

The car fell silent again.

“I’ve heard a lot of people talking about the tour,” he tried again, a little too formally.
