He Left Me Broken Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 06

The company didn’t have much of a budget, but the script I had in mind was perfect for them.

We spent days buried in discussions, working late into the night until we fell asleep surrounded by takeout boxes and a chaos of sticky notes.

The next morning, still half-asleep, I went to take out the trash. The door was only halfway open when I saw Rowan standing there. I thought I had to be dreaming and immediately tried to slam it shut.

He blocked it with his hand.

His eyes were bloodshot. His usually pristine shirt was a mess of wrinkles.

“Liv.”

His voice was raw.

“How did you find me?”

He held up his phone.

“We shared our locations. You never turned it off.”

I disabled the location sharing right there in front of him, then pulled the door open a little wider.

“What are you doing here?”

He looked at me like a student facing a problem he couldn’t solve.

“I want to explain. That day—”

“Stop repeating yourself. I heard you.”

I cut him off.

“So nothing happened between you two that one time. What about the next time? Or the time after that?”

“To me, Mia is like the little sister I grew up with. We would never—”

“She’s not your sister. You’re not related, and she wasn’t adopted by your family.”

My voice rose, sharp and thin.

“Why are you standing here? Are you just waiting for me to accept your explanation and admit your logic is flawless?”

“You came here because you know that scene in our apartment was wrong. Any partner would think you’d crossed a line. So why did you bring her there in the first place?”

I paused, then lowered my voice.

“Because you didn’t care how it would make me feel. As long as it made sense in your head, you decided it wasn’t a problem. No one else’s feelings mattered.”

“My feelings didn’t matter, either.”

Rowan just stared at me.

“I don’t know what else you want. If you just wanted an explanation for that night, you’ve heard it. I even believe you when you say you didn’t sleep with her.”

“Now, you listen to me. We’re broken up. Don’t come looking for me again. I’m not threatening you, and this isn’t some game. This is the final diagnosis. It’s over.”

His lips parted, but no words came out.

My hand tightened on the doorknob.

“Goodbye, Rowan.”

I shut the door in his face.
