Three Days Until Goodbye Chapter 10
The next day, as I left the estate for work, Sabrina suddenly dashed out from the roadside.
Her face was red and swollen, her hair a mess, and her limited-edition dress was coated in dust.
She looked no different from a beggar on the street.
She glared at me viciously.
“The Broughton family called off the engagement with me. My dad says I’m worthless now — he’s cutting ties with me.”
“I’ve got nothing left. Happy now?”
I found it utterly baffling.
From start to finish, I had always known that, in this three-way relationship, the one most at fault was Alexander.
I spoke with a sneer.
“I didn’t force Alexander to break off the engagement with you. There’s no point coming to me — go find him.”
Sabrina froze for a moment.
Her eyes suddenly turned hard and ruthless.
She shoved past me and ran off, stumbling.
A bad feeling rose in me, but I couldn’t be bothered to intervene.
Just then, a friend request came in from a stranger.
I knew it was Alexander.
But I accepted it anyway.
If I thought about it, we still hadn’t said goodbye properly.
This relationship I had thrown myself into with everything I had deserved a complete ending.
On his end, the screen showed he was typing for a long time.
But he only sent a single line.
“Were you with me from the very beginning — for money?”
He still couldn’t believe I could leave so decisively.
At first, it was true — I agreed to be his kept woman to help the Dawes family pay off their debts.
But he was a seasoned player, so good at pretending, always wearing that gentle, devoted mask.
How could someone as inexperienced as me not be moved?
If there had been no love, then when he mocked me as a plaything and blocked me again and again, why would my heart have hurt?
I lowered my eyes and replied carefully.
“I did love you.”
He had drained that love away with his own hands.
On his end, there was another long stretch of typing.
In the end, only one word popped up in the chat.
“Okay.”
I smiled in relief, then blocked him.
When I drove to the studio, I helped Brian dab medicine onto the wound on his face.
The whole time, he kept using all sorts of flimsy excuses to create more physical contact with me.
His feelings were far too obvious.
His intensity and childishness made me laugh.
I didn’t beat around the bush; I asked him directly.
“I’m almost 30, and you’ve just graduated. Do you really think our ages make sense?”
Even Alexander thought I was old.
So what about someone as young as Brian?
But he hugged me firmly.
“People who don’t love you are the ones who’ll come up with every excuse to say you’re not good enough.”
“I don’t want to think about anything else. I just want to be with you. That’s all.”
Naturally, I accepted his pursuit.
Chelsea was very pleased with my new boyfriend and gave me a thumbs-up.
“Not bad, Mady — ditched the scumbag and even found yourself such an adorable puppy.”
“Truly an inspiration to us all.”
I messed around with her, laughing and shoving.
To thank her for taking care of me, I treated her to dinner at the most luxurious restaurant in Norway.
Our studio’s game had launched recently, and the numbers were extremely promising.
I had also become a rising star in the fashion world.
After dinner, when I got home, I started scrolling through videos.
There, sitting at the very top of the trending topics, was the headline: “Homer Heiress Kills New York’s Most Powerful Heir in Alleged Car Attack.”
Just then, Brian walked out of the bathroom.
Water droplets clung to his perfectly defined eight-pack, raw sex appeal spilling off him.
He leaned in close, his tone aggrieved.
“You’ve got such a handsome husband right here, and you’re zoning out at your phone?”
I came back to myself, set the phone down, and smiled lightly.
“How could I? Brian, I like you.”
The past would eventually scatter with the wind.
What mattered was cherishing the happiness I had now.
