The Girl He Sold Returned As The King’s Mate Chapter 20
Riverbend security officially reopened the disappearance file.
The old file read *presumed drowning, no body recovered*.
The new one documented the dockside abduction, the Starlight Carnival, and the six illegal transfers in full.
The identity registrar asked if I wanted to restore the name Evelyn Hawthorne.
I thought about it for a long time.
“Restore her birth record, but keep Naomi Sutton as my legal name.”
“Evelyn proves that child didn’t just vanish.”
“Naomi is the road I walked to survive.”
The registrar entered my choice:
*Evelyn Hawthorne, previously misclassified as missing/drowned following abduction and human trafficking; identity now confirmed. Subject has elected to use the name Naomi Sutton.*
I did not ask for the Starlight Carnival’s ledger to be destroyed.
It was evidence.
If it were burned just so I wouldn’t have to look at it, the fates of the other children recorded on its pages would be lost forever.
The Royal Justice Office used the ledger to launch a wider investigation.
