I Lost Our Child Chapter 20
Just before summer, I saw Thatcher again.
We had a meal together.
He was so tense that his hands trembled as he held his knife and fork.
“Do we still have a chance?”
I offered a small smile.
“Thatcher, we should both move on.”
“Don’t come looking for me again. There’s no chance for us.”
“I hope you have a good life. I hope work goes well for you.”
I was starting my own life.
I thought everything connected to that marriage should finally be over.
In my third month after the transfer, Sarah sent me a video.
It had been posted by Ava’s studio.
In the video, I was asking her about her first love and whether she was still in touch with him.
Her answers had been chopped into fragments.
At the end, the frame froze on my face.
The title read:
[Actress’s Old Heartbreak Maliciously Exposed; Ava Attempts Suicide Night of Interview.]
My full name, and the company I now worked for, were written below.
Sarah called me immediately.
“Alessa, do you remember the raw footage from that interview?”
Of course I remembered.
It was an interview I had conducted, but one that had never aired.
Less than two hours after the video went up, the comments had already surpassed ten thousand.
Some said I had deliberately provoked an emotionally unstable person for clicks.
Some dug up the old reports about me being injured and hospitalized, sneering that I had turned professionalism into a personal brand.
Others called my workplace directly, demanding I be fired.
