I Lost Our Child Chapter 25

Her mother claimed I had deliberately targeted Ava.

But the evidence showed the exact opposite.

From the invitation to the questions to the interviewer, every decision had been made by her daughter first.

That afternoon, Thatcher sent me a message.

[I want to publicly explain our marriage at the time. Is that okay?]

I stared at the words for a long time.

Back then, he had gone to my company to suppress an article to protect Ava.

Now that the tables had turned, he was finally willing to tell the truth.

It was just too late.

[Only the facts. Don’t reveal any other private details about me.]

He replied quickly.

[Okay.]

Half an hour later, the official Santoro Group account released a statement.

Thatcher admitted that he and I had been married for three years.

He admitted that during our marriage, he had neglected me many times because of Ava.

He no longer tried to explain it away with friendship.

He no longer said I was too sensitive or that I was imagining things.

The last paragraph of the statement was written by him personally.

[Ms. Alessa Blake did not orchestrate any negative reporting regarding Ms. Ava Rossi, nor did she interfere in any prior relationship between myself and Ms. Rossi. The responsibility for the breakdown of our marriage lies with me. She is now divorced from me and should not continue to bear the consequences of my mistakes.]

It was the first time Thatcher had admitted in front of everyone that he was the one at fault.

But after reading it, I didn’t feel much of anything.

Sarah called me, her voice triumphant.

“You know that coworker who had her bonus docked back then? She republished that article.”

“This time, nobody dares make her take it down.”

I walked to the window and looked out at the high-rises and traffic below.

“It was never fake news in the first place.”

“Exactly.”

Sarah paused.

“Alessa, truth that comes late is still useful.”

I made a quiet sound of agreement.

At the very least, no one would ever be able to call that article the revenge of a jealous wife again.
