He Gave Our Baby To His Mistress Then I Was Reborn Chapter 05

I lift the remote and click on the big screen.

“Preston. Take a good look at what you’ve done.”

The footage cuts in. A hospital room. Preston picks up a baby from the bassinet, carries him out, and comes back a moment later with a different bundle. Anyone watching closely can see the swap.

I followed him. My phone was in my hand the whole time. Through the crack in the door on the third floor, I recorded everything.

Preston’s voice booms out of the speakers.

“Baby, you did so good. He’s perfect. I already dropped him off with Yvonne. He’ll be the Whitmore firstborn, heir to the whole empire with his name on it.”

Sierra’s voice, soft and sweet:

“Preston, I can’t do this. I’ll never see him grow up. I might as well die.”

“Just eighteen years, baby. Once our son inherits, we bring you both home. You’ll be Mrs. Whitmore for real.”

“But what about Yvonne? She won’t let this go.”

Preston, on screen, his face twisted:

“She brought this on herself. If she leaves quietly, fine. If not, I don’t mind sending her somewhere permanent. Even the Sinclairs can’t investigate a depressed woman’s suicide.”

“And the other baby? What if I can’t take care of him?”

“Don’t stress. If he doesn’t make it, he doesn’t make it. Weak stock. I only have one son. Ours. Lucky.”

Then the two of them, tangled up on the bed, kissing loudly.

The whole ballroom gasps.

Someone shouts, “Sierra’s baby is *Preston’s*?”

I fast-forward. On screen, I dart into the room, swap the babies, run back downstairs.

My voice, calm and level:

“Preston. Your son with Sierra deserves the name little bastard.”

“If you two hurry, you can still catch his ashes. Otherwise, Walter really will dump him in a sewer. Just like you ordered.”

“MY BABY!” Sierra screams and collapses, unconscious.

The room is frozen. Even Richard, who’s weathered decades of Boston politics, looks like he’s been struck.

Preston has gone chalk white. He’s muttering to himself.

“No. No. The little bastard is your son. Lucky is mine and Sierra’s…”

Damon crosses the room in three strides and kicks him square in the chest. Preston flies backward, slams into the wall, and crumples.

Ethan is on him in seconds, straddling him, fists flying.

Preston’s face swells fast, blood streaking from his mouth as he tries to shield himself.

“You animal. Trying to steal from my sister, trying to take Sinclair assets. You’re not walking out of here alive.”

Ethan pulls out his phone and starts making calls.

“Marcus. Kill the Whitmore deal. Effective now.”

“Rick. Open an environmental audit on Whitmore Corp. Full investigation.”

“Senator. That land parcel outside the city. Yank Whitmore’s bid.”

Richard panics, grabbing Ethan’s arm.

“Ethan, please. There’s been a misunderstanding. Let me investigate. Whatever Preston did, I swear I’ll give Yvonne justice.”

“If this animal really did what she says, I’ll throw him out myself.”

“Please. You know I’ve always loved Yvonne like my own daughter.”

I press Ethan’s phone down and signal Damon to stop.

I look at Richard.

“Dad, I know you’ve always been good to me. But Preston really did this. Everyone here is a witness. It’s time the Whitmores and the Sinclairs settled things.”

Richard nods slowly, his face like stone.

“You have my word. No Whitmore is a coward or a snake. If my son did this, he’ll be punished.”

He gestures. Two security guards drag Preston to his feet and shove him forward.

Richard studies him for a long moment, then sighs deeply.

“Preston. Was it your plan? Did you swap Yvonne’s baby? Did you let Sierra torture him to death?”

Preston’s face is gray. He just glares at me, saying nothing.

Richard’s voice hardens.

“Punishment. Now.”

“Someone take Sierra to the police station. Tell them I want her fully investigated.”

“I’ll talk!” Preston roars.

“It was all my idea. Sierra had nothing to do with it.”

He turns to look at me, eyes full of hate.

“Sierra grew up with nothing. She’s suffered her whole life. She stayed by my side with no name, no status. Her child would’ve been called a bastard forever.”

“You’ve had everything since the day you were born. Would it kill you to give her a little?”

I laugh, cold.

“So because her life was hard, my child had to pay for it?”

“Preston. Did you forget he was your son too? Your blood. Even wild animals don’t eat their own young. How could you watch him suffer and die?”
