He Chose Her On Our Wedding Night So I Took Everything Chapter 18

After my parents returned, they took a lot of work off my plate.

I finally had time to meet my friend Paige Morgan for afternoon tea.

Paige glanced at her phone and suddenly laughed.

“Wyatt’s in the neighborhood. He found those fabric swatches he promised you and wants to know if you still want them. He asked me to check first if now was a good time.”

I took a sip of my coffee.

“So he finally learned to ask first.”

Paige burst out laughing.

“He knows he messed up. He told me later he never wanted to put you on the spot like that again.”

I didn’t answer.

She looked at me again.

“But seriously… do you really not remember him?”

“Didn’t you two go to the same summer camp at Big Bear Lake when you were kids?”

I looked up.

Paige seemed surprised by my confusion.

“When you were twelve, you fell in the lake. He was the one who pulled you out. He was in his last year of high school, working as a junior counselor. After he got you to shore, he had to be taken to the infirmary for inhaling water.”

“I just assumed you knew.”

My hand froze around my cup.

“The person who saved me… that was him?”

“Of course. He went to the medical center, and your parents took you home right away. You two never saw each other again.”

I paid the bill without even finishing my coffee and headed for the door.

Wyatt was standing outside the café, looking at his phone, a paper bag of swatches in his hand.

When he saw me, he immediately started to explain. “Paige said you had time, so I came over. I was just going to drop these off and leave. I didn’t want to interrupt.”

I walked right up to him.

“Wyatt.”

He stopped.

“The person who pulled me out of the lake at summer camp all those years ago—was that you?”
