The Widow’s Fate They Chose Was My Escape Plan Chapter 34

At last, the chairman panicked.

He turned to his lawyer, but the man silently closed his file.

“So you’re all going to dump the blame on me?”

No one answered.

The assistant who had delivered the report for him three years ago was the first to speak.

“I only organized the materials on the chairman’s instructions.”

The head of corporate security added, “The contractor was specifically assigned by the chairman’s office. The other directors knew nothing.”

In their rush to distance themselves, the two men only confirmed more of what he had done.

The chairman trembled with rage.

“You’re paid by Hudson Crest, and you betray me?”

The assistant gave a bitter smile. “Didn’t you just say that any false information was the contractor’s negligence?”

As I watched them turn on each other, I thought of the Sterling family’s final night.

People are only devoted when their interests are aligned.

The moment disaster strikes, they always sacrifice the ones closest to them.

In the end, the special committee found that the chairman had concealed conflicts of interest, abused company resources, and leaked confidential materials.

Hudson Crest’s board held an emergency vote and stripped him of all his positions.

When he heard the result, he seemed to age ten years.

He staggered over to me and lowered his voice. “Do you really think that if I’m gone, the Quinn family will protect you forever?”

“Without the Sterling name, and without Sebastian, you’re nothing.”

Calmly, I lifted the work ID hanging from my neck.

It bore my new name and title.

“You’re wrong.”

“Without them, I’m still Lena Hart.”
