The Widow’s Fate They Chose Was My Escape Plan Chapter 37
Half a year later, I held another small ceremony on a Miami beach.
There were no business guests, no agreements meant to stabilize a company.
Mia came from New York. The moment she saw me, she burst into tears.
After the Sterling family fell, she had kept the document box with my parents’ photographs safe for me all this time. Now she returned it to me, intact.
“Miss Lena, I was always so afraid you weren’t doing well here.”
I hugged her and gently patted her back.
“From now on, just call me Lena.”
Standing to one side, Eleanor urged impatiently, “Alright, enough crying. You’ll ruin your makeup.”
Though that was what she said, she was the first to turn away and wipe at her eyes.
I didn’t wear the wedding dress my mother had left me.
They had taken it and put it on Ivy. It now carried not only my mother’s blessing, but too many memories I had no wish to revisit.
I chose a simple white dress.
In my hands were the orchids Sebastian had tended for three years.
Eleanor had also kept a small box of the gold commemorative coins from our first wedding. She handed me one engraved with the date Sebastian and I had married.
