I Died In His Arms Now I’ll Marry Another Chapter 03

After that night, Adrian started taking our marriage seriously.

Whenever he returned to the Alpha’s residence, the first thing he did was look for me.

He dried my hair for me and drank tea with me in the greenhouse. Sometimes I would lay my head in his lap and pout, refusing to let him go back to the Royal Guard for overtime.

The Hawthorne family slowly began to accept me, too.

The younger children pulled me into their soccer games and fought over who got to drag me to the edge of the forest to catch fireflies.

Then, I got pregnant.

The entire Stonebrook Pack became absurdly protective. Because pregnancy meant I couldn’t shift freely and my healing abilities would weaken, Margaret had a Healer check on me almost every day.

During that time, I learned for the first time what it felt like to have a home.

Until I was eight months pregnant, and Emilia announced she had good news, too.

She might be carrying twins.

By then, we had reconciled. We even joked that if our children wanted, they could become best friends.

But that very night, Emilia fell down the stairs in the side hall of the Alpha’s residence.

The Healer couldn’t save her babies.

The staff found one of my bracelets at the top of the stairs. It had gone missing a week earlier.

Someone whispered, “Laurel has always wanted to outdo Emilia. Emilia was carrying twins, while she only has one…”

Every eye in the room turned to me.

I felt like I’d been plunged into a frozen lake.

The bracelet was mine.

But then or now, I had never once thought of hurting Emilia.

In front of everyone, Adrian suspended the staff spreading rumors, then escorted me back to my room.

He said, “I believe you. Don’t be afraid. Just take care of yourself.”

For the first time, I felt truly at ease.

Even if everyone else suspected me, as long as Adrian believed me, it was enough.

That night, I brought his usual hot drink to his study, only to hear him say to Ethan through the closed door:

“Laurel has a paranoid nature. Even if she’s changed these past few years, we can’t rule out the possibility that she hurt Emilia.”

“Father, investigate her communications, her movements. And find out why that bracelet appeared there.”

The cup slipped from my hand.

I staggered backward in a panic, my foot slipping on the rain-slick stone of the terrace, and fell into the pool.

At eight months pregnant, my body was too heavy. The shock and impact triggered premature labor, and the pregnancy suppressed my wolf’s ability to heal.

I fought for three days.

The baby died inside me, and I bled out until the very end.

In my last moments, I saw Adrian—always so composed—covered in my blood, kneeling beside the medical bed and clutching my hand.

He begged me not to leave him.

How touching.

With my last ounce of strength, I smiled.

“Adrian, your hypocrisy makes me sick.”
