He Put His Ex First So I Found My True Mate Chapter 07

Back at the cliff house, no one noticed there was no breakfast until seven o’clock.

Cynthia called my phone several times, her face darkening with each unanswered ring.

“Mara is way too sensitive. When she gets back, she needs to apologize to everyone.”

Graham pushed open the guest room door, saw the empty closet, and finally frowned.

“Her luggage is gone.”

Blair leaned in the doorway, wearing his shirt.

She gave a soft laugh. “You’ve always indulged her too much. She grew up between foster houses. You were her only real chance of getting into Tidewatch. Do you really think she’d walk away for good?”

The others laughed, too.

They were all convinced I’d be back by evening at the latest, ready to make dinner for everyone.

But on the drive back to Grayhaven, I found myself remembering something from last month.

Graham’s younger child had spiked a 104-degree fever in the middle of the night. Graham was at an old-family dinner. All he said over the phone was:

“Take him to the pack clinic. Put the bill on your card for now.”

That night, even the rideshare driver had been more alarmed than he was, asking if the pup had seized, if we needed to contact patrol to clear a path.

I stayed at the clinic until dawn, and for the first time, I seriously considered leaving Graham.

The next day, he came home with flowers and wrapped me in his arms.

“I knew I could count on you. You’ll make an amazing partner, the kind of mother the pups need.”

And I stayed.

Six months earlier, when we signed the cohabitation agreement, my attorney had warned me that the portion of the down payment I was covering was unreasonable.

Graham had claimed his funds were temporarily tied up in Whitmore shared assets.

“You cover more now. Once we finish our partner registration and I’m added to the family accounts, I’ll pay you back double.”

I had explained it all away to my foster parents and emptied nearly all my savings.

The next day, he came home and kissed me.

“We finally have a home of our own.”

Then he looked at me with that same approving expression, the one he always used when I was being sensible.

And once again, I had given in.
