He Put His Ex First So I Found My True Mate Chapter 12
A week later, Graham’s mother called and asked to meet me in person at the Moonbay Club in Grayhaven.
She said she was inviting me as an individual, not on behalf of the family.
It was neutral social territory, managed jointly by several packs, and did not belong to the Whitmores.
“Just lunch, Mara. Please, give me one chance to say what I need to say.”
I agreed.
Not because I intended to forgive anyone.
I wanted this to end in front of her, so Graham could never again mistake my silence for hesitation.
In the private dining room, she took my hand.
“He made a terrible mistake. But he can’t manage without you, and the pups need you, too. You were supposed to become part of the Whitmore family.”
The door flew open.
Graham had clearly been waiting in the next room all along.
He strode up to me, dropped to one knee, and held up the courtship ring.
“Mara, will you finish the ceremony with me? I promise, from now on, I’ll listen to you first in everything.”
I hadn’t even answered before the dining room door slammed into the wall again.
Blair stormed in.
Her hair was disheveled, her face pale.
“Graham, what are you doing?”
He shot to his feet.
“Who told you to come here?”
“I followed you!” Blair’s voice rose sharply. “You told me I was the one you loved. You said you’d cancel her ceremony for me and the pups!”
Graham’s mother went rigid in her chair.
Blair pointed a shaking finger at me.
“Isn’t it better that she left? You and I and our pups are the real Whitmore family!”
No one in the room said a word.
I looked at Graham clutching the ring, at Blair coming apart at the seams, at his mother with the color drained from her face, and finally, I let out a cold laugh.
So it was true.
I really had been standing between them all that time.
