He Put His Ex First So I Found My True Mate Chapter 13
Graham’s mother lurched to her feet and stepped in front of Blair.
“That’s enough.”
All the color had drained from her face.
Then she turned and gripped my hand, her voice shaking.
“Mara, the Whitmores have wronged you. I truly didn’t know this was what today would become. Graham only said he wanted to apologize. I had no idea things were still not over between them.”
She kept explaining, as if enough words might salvage the last scraps of her family’s dignity.
But I remembered the first time I questioned Blair overstepping her bounds, and Graham putting an arm around me and saying, “She’s just insecure after ending the registration. For the pups’ sake, I need to reassure her.”
And now Blair was shouting in public that they were the real family.
Graham looked at me, panic written all over his face.
I gently pulled my hand from his mother’s grasp.
“You don’t need to say any more.”
Then I looked at Graham.
“My attorney has already initiated the terms of the cohabitation agreement. You have thirty days to buy out my share of the Grayhaven house at its assessed value. Otherwise, the property will be subject to a forced sale.”
The color vanished from Graham’s face.
“And all six of you have already received reimbursement notices. The lodging, food, and activity costs from the Tidewatch weekend need to be repaid according to the itemized statement.”
“Have you lost your mind?” Blair cut in shrilly. “We’re all friends. Are you seriously going after your friends for money?”
“Friends?”
I looked at her.
“When did any of you ever treat me like a friend?”
I picked up my bag, my voice calm.
“And especially you. You slept in the suite I paid the deposit for, ate the food I bought, and used the activities I funded to prove you were Graham’s real family. Every cent on that statement will be repaid. If it’s late, I’ll file for collection with the territorial civil tribunal.”
I walked out.
The door hadn’t even swung shut before Blair’s scream followed me.
“Graham, look how vicious she is! She’s really counting every dollar with us. How could a woman like that ever fit into the Whitmore family?”
Then Graham’s tired voice came after it.
“Pay her back.”
A second later, the fight between them exploded inside the room.
That debt, together with the losses a forced home sale would bring, had landed squarely where it would hurt them most.
This time, no one could use my money while mocking me for being too useful.
