I Survived My Father’s Test And Took His Throne Chapter 14
Evelyn stared at me as if she were seeing a ghost.
“How are you still alive?”
I glanced at the man beside me.
“Caleb saved me.”
Caleb Warren was from the Northgate Pack. After coming of age, he joined the Royal Guard and had served as my personal security officer since he was a teenager.
He was loyal to me, but never blindly obedient to my father.
Three years ago, worried Caleb would see through the fake coup, my father transferred him to the northwestern border, ordering him to serve five years along the frontier and cutting off all non-military contact with the royal household.
A few weeks ago, a new recruit arriving at the border happened to mention rumors from the castle.
When Caleb heard I had been locked away in the laundry, he handed off his command duties that same night and flew back to the capital on a military aircraft. When storms grounded him, he switched vehicles again and again, barely resting.
By the time he reached the castle, he saw me jump into the river from outside the flood-control service door.
My father and Julian had circled from the main entrance toward the riverbank, but Caleb dove straight into the current and caught me before I went under.
He took me to a private medical center controlled by the Northgate Pack.
The healer saved my life, but could not save the child.
And the damage caused by long-term poisoning and repeated terminations was irreversible. I would never be able to have children.
