I Survived My Father’s Test And Took His Throne Chapter 16
Her face turned deathly pale.
“You can’t kill me! I’m a royal princess. Even if I committed a crime, I have to be tried by the Royal Council!”
When she saw the killing intent in Caleb’s eyes hadn’t faded, she did what she always had, and begged my father for help.
“Father, I was wrong! I’ll never do it again!”
“Don’t let Sister kill me. Please, save me!”
In the end, my father’s heart softened.
He walked over to me and tried to put a hand on my shoulder.
“Laurel, Evelyn is still young. The enemy prince may have manipulated her. You can’t—”
I stepped away from his hand.
“You want me to spare her?”
“She had me raped for three years. She killed my child. She poisoned me. She sold out the kingdom’s borders.”
“And even after all that, you still love her more, don’t you?”
The truth couldn’t have been clearer, and still, he reached for excuses on her behalf.
My father froze, then let out a weary sigh.
“You’re sisters.”
“I promised Helena I would look after both of you. If she saw you killing each other, she would be disappointed.”
I smiled faintly.
“Mother wouldn’t be disappointed in me.”
“She would only be disappointed in you—a cruel father, blinded by favoritism.”
I stepped in front of the live broadcast cameras and looked straight at him.
“If you want Evelyn to live, fine.”
“Hand over the crown and all ruling power now. I become Wilton’s new monarch, and in return, I guarantee I won’t execute her.”
My father stared at me in shock.
“Laurel, the throne was always going to be yours. Why force my hand today?”
“Because I no longer believe your promises.”
I stepped back.
Caleb raised his gun, the muzzle stopping beside my father’s neck. At the same time, the sound of armored vehicles rolling into the castle square echoed from outside.
“The northwestern border coalition and the pack warriors who support me have already secured the capital.”
“If you abdicate now, I’ll spare your life and Evelyn’s, and I’ll let the Royal Council complete the transfer of power according to the succession laws.”
“If you refuse, then the fake coup from three years ago becomes a real one today.”
