My Fiancé Chose Her So I Chose Myself Chapter 05
I wheeled my suitcase to the door just as the electronic lock beeped.
Travis pushed the door open.
He paused when he saw me standing in the entryway, then his gaze swept over the empty closet and cleared surfaces.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m finished packing.”
Travis seemed to relax, probably assuming I’d finally taken his advice and cleaned out my old clothes.
He set his briefcase on the cabinet and walked over, reaching to cup the back of my head the way he always did.
I turned aside, avoiding his touch.
My wolf recognized his familiar scent, but for the first time, it didn’t relax.
His hand hung in the air for a moment before he slowly drew it back.
“Are you still angry about what happened at urgent care?” He sighed, his tone gentler than it had been that day. “I was wrong. I didn’t realize you were sick. But you should have called me, too. If you go to urgent care alone, how can I not worry?”
For five years, that’s how it always was.
He would neglect me, then twist my silence into a new offense.
He sat down on the sofa, his eyes missing the ring and the withdrawal notice on the coffee table.
“It’s good you got rid of the old clothes. In a few days, I’ll take you and Jenna shopping for new ones.”
He looked at me as if the matter was already decided.
“Jenna’s been wanting to go to the beach. Once she’s feeling better, we’ll make up our anniversary trip and bring her along. If she stays in Chicago by herself, she’ll just spiral. Her protection registration is still under my name. I can’t ignore her.”
