My Fiancé Chose Her So I Chose Myself Chapter 26
When Travis appeared on the video screen, he looked as if he had aged a decade overnight.
His lawyer sat to his left. Evan sat at the other end of the conference table. A Lakecrest council inspector was also present.
The audit lead began by displaying the due diligence report from the acquisition.
“Mr. Vale, this section clearly requires supplemental disclosure of all authority and expenditures related to the community relations department. Why was that not submitted?”
Travis looked at the file.
“At the time, company cash flow was tight. I didn’t believe those amounts would affect the overall valuation or the pack’s energy supply.”
“But after the acquisition closed, you publicly declared that those expenses and conflicts of interest were serious enough to justify firing Ms. Collins, revoking your status as her protection contact, and seeking repayment.”
Travis’s throat worked once.
“I didn’t realize the seriousness of it until later.”
“Was that after seeing Ms. Whitman again?”
The conference room fell completely silent.
Travis lifted his head and looked toward my window on the screen.
In that moment, he finally understood that his public statement had never been damage control.
He had admitted that he granted Jenna unsupervised authority. He had admitted that the internal investigation confirmed the expenses and conflicts of interest. He had admitted that even after warnings from management and the Lakecrest council, he still had not addressed it.
Every single word had come from him.
“I’m willing to take responsibility,” Travis said, his voice strained. “But I built TerraGrid. No one understands it better than I do.”
