They Canceled My Ticket I Canceled Them Chapter 14

The moment I stepped through the doors, I felt several pairs of eyes lock onto me.

Not far away, Marcus stood with a wineglass in his hand. He went completely still.

He was much thinner than he’d been three years ago. His eyes were hollowed out, and a rough stubble shadowed his jaw. Even his suit seemed to hang off his frame.

Daniel and Tyler were standing nearby. They stared at me, frozen.

Tyler’s grip on his wineglass loosened. Red wine sloshed onto his shirt, but he didn’t seem to notice.

“Ellie…”

Marcus breathed my name.

He took an unconscious step toward me, but Madison grabbed his arm.

“Marcus, that woman… is that really Ellie?”

Madison wore an outdated white lace dress, her face pale.

For the past three years, with no one to do her work for her or clean up her messes, her career had floundered. Her talent was never enough to justify her position. As the company lost clients, Marcus and the Reeds had grown less and less willing to bail her out.

Now, she clutched Marcus’s arm as if it were her last lifeline.

I gave them no reaction.

Julien led me toward the evening’s host.

“Mr. Cooper, allow me to introduce you. This is LN’s newly appointed North American partner, Elena Preston.”

Cooper’s face lit up as he extended his hand.

“Ms. Preston, a pleasure to finally meet you. Your work has been the talk of the industry.”

I shook his hand and began discussing the acquisition agenda.

From the corner of my eye, I saw Marcus wrench his arm free from Madison’s grasp and stride toward me.
