They Canceled My Ticket I Canceled Them Chapter 15
“Ellie!”
Marcus’s voice was shaking, a mix of three years of pain and a sudden, wild hope.
He came right up to me, reaching for my wrist.
“It really is you. You came back.”
I shifted, and his hand closed on empty air.
I looked at him as if he were a complete stranger.
“Sir, I believe you’ve mistaken me for someone else.”
Holding my champagne flute, I kept my tone perfectly formal.
Marcus’s hand froze in midair.
“Ellie, don’t do this. I know you blame me. I was wrong. I’ve spent three years looking for you. I was going out of my mind.”
“I’m sorry.”
I cut him off, my voice crisp.
“My name is Elena Preston. I’m the North American partner for LN Group, based in Paris. And if my information is correct, Winslow Design filed for Chapter 11 protection last month, did it not?”
The color drained from Marcus’s face.
“You… you’re a partner at LN?”
Daniel and Tyler had already pushed through the crowd, rushing over.
“Ellie!” Daniel shouldered past a group of people. “Where have you been for three years? Are you going to pretend you don’t know us, either?”
Tyler reached out, trying to touch my arm.
“We were worried sick about you. Come home with us so we can talk.”
“Security.”
I didn’t raise my voice.
A nearby guard immediately stepped forward, positioning himself between us.
“Mr. Reed.”
I looked straight at Daniel.
“Your parents were my foster guardians. That arrangement ended long ago, and they never adopted me. Three years ago, I revoked every authorization you held. Legally, you are nothing to me. Please stop ordering me around as if you’re family.”
