They Canceled My Ticket I Canceled Them Chapter 17

After the dinner, a heavy rain began to fall.

Riley held an umbrella over my head as she walked me to the car.

The driver was about to pull away when a figure suddenly ran into the road, arms spread wide, blocking our path.

It was Marcus.

He had no umbrella. The rain had plastered his suit to his body.

The driver slammed on the brakes and looked back at me.

“Ms. Preston, should I call the police?”

Through the rain-streaked window, I looked at the man I had loved for ten years.

He was trembling, his eyes red, his gaze locked on the car.

“Not yet.”

I pushed open the door and stepped out under a black umbrella.

The moment Marcus saw me, he ran toward me, trying to pull me into an embrace.

“Ellie, I knew you still cared. You got out of the car. You couldn’t stand to see me like this, could you?”

I stepped back. His arms closed on nothing.

“Marcus, standing in front of a moving car is dangerous. If the driver had braked a second later, you’d be in an emergency room right now.”

Marcus shook his head frantically.

“I don’t care. The only thing I’m afraid of is you not wanting me anymore. For the last three years, I’ve regretted everything. I regret how I treated you after Seattle, and I regret letting Madison call all the shots.”
