They Canceled My Ticket I Canceled Them Chapter 23
“Reply to the lawyer.”
I handed the tablet back to Riley.
“All communication will go through my legal representative. I will not meet with Marcus alone.”
Riley nodded.
“And if he refuses to sign?”
“Then the liquidator will handle it.”
I looked out the car window.
“That apartment has a mortgage, my equity, and the power of attorney I signed three years ago. He has no standing to hold my signature hostage for a meeting.”
The next afternoon, my lawyer delivered the proposed sale agreement to Marcus.
He didn’t sign.
Half an hour later, a package arrived at my office. Inside were no documents, only the tarnished silver necklace I had thrown in the trash three years ago.
The chain was black, the clasp broken.
A slip of paper was tucked inside the box.
*Come home one last time. Just for ten minutes.*
Marcus was still playing the same old game, thinking that if he dangled a piece of the past, I would fill in the meaning for him.
I told Riley to send the necklace and the note to my lawyer.
“Add them to the record of harassment.”
“You don’t want to look at it again?”
“No.”
That evening, Marcus emailed the liquidator, claiming I was refusing to cooperate with the sale.
