They Canceled My Ticket I Canceled Them Chapter 35

On the day Northstar’s new office officially opened, the first snow of the season fell on Chicago.

I stood in the bright, modern lobby and unveiled the new metal plaque at the entrance.

As applause filled the room, I saw the first group of interns standing at the back of the crowd.

One of them was the girl who had sent me that email.

She clutched her new ID badge nervously, only approaching after the crowd had thinned.

“Ms. Preston, I can’t believe I was selected.”

“Why not?”

“My school isn’t that well-known, and my portfolio has a lot of problems.”

“The review committee’s comments are all in your file. You can read them yourself.”

She blinked.

“I can?”

“Of course. You don’t have to guess what people are thinking.”

A slow, brilliant smile spread across her face.

And in that moment, I understood that the past hadn’t vanished.

It just no longer had the power to define me.

That evening, the team celebrated at a nearby restaurant.

Riley handed me the menu.

“We haven’t ordered yet. Everyone wanted to wait for you.”

“Does anyone have allergies?” I asked the table.

Several people spoke up.
