His Love Is Not Visible Chapter 05

After my follow-up, I went home.

Garrett came in a few minutes later.

Frowning, his gaze moved from my face to my shoulder.

“Ryan said you were burned at a restaurant last week.”

“Why didn’t you tell me you were hurt? Couldn’t you have called?”

I was silent for a long moment.

“Garrett, just forget it.”

He stared at me.

“Let’s get divorced.”

The expression on his face vanished.

A few seconds later, he asked, “Where were you burned?”

“My back.”

He stepped toward me.

“Let me see.”

I backed away.

“It’s almost healed.”

Garrett called after me.

“Laura.”

“Next time, call me.”

I gave him a polite smile, then walked into the bedroom and shut the door.

Garrett’s family was much wealthier than mine.

After we got married, my grandfather had major surgery. The bills that insurance didn’t cover were more than my parents could handle, and the Bancrofts paid them for us.

That debt, combined with Garrett’s indifference, always made me feel like I had to do more, to prove I wasn’t just taking advantage of his family’s wealth.
