He wiped at his eyes.
“I didn’t sleep with Vanessa. There was a reason I took her to the hotel. I just never explained it to you.”
“It’s too late to explain now, but I still want you to know.”
“Her ex-boyfriend from London wouldn’t accept their breakup. He followed her back to the States and was stalking her around the hotel. He’d hit her before.”
“She asked me for help, so I took her back to the hotel and notified security.”
I looked down at the bedsheet.
“What about picking her up at the airport in the middle of the night? I was on that same flight.”
Garrett froze.
“Her ex was on that flight, too. After she landed, she called me and said he had been following her. That’s why I went.”
I drew in a breath.
“Garrett, you had no evidence, but you decided it was me who took and spread those photos.”
“You never even really asked me.”
“From the moment we had that fight, I knew this relationship was broken beyond repair.”
“I’ve already told my parents I’m getting a divorce. You should tell your family, too.”
He parted his lips to speak.
I cut him off. “I’m very tired. I need to rest.”
His voice was low.
“Okay.”
When Garrett left, he turned off the overhead light and quietly shut the door behind him.
