His Love Is Not Visible Chapter 33
When she came back from London, he had rushed to the airport in the middle of the night to meet her.
When Laura asked him about Vanessa outside the hotel, he hadn’t even bothered to explain.
He had used silence to favor his past, as if Laura would always be there, waiting.
“Vee.”
Vanessa looked up at him.
“I’m divorced now.”
She smiled.
“I know.”
“My divorce had something to do with you.”
Her smile faded.
Garrett went on. “But not because I planned to choose you.”
“It was because, again and again in my marriage, I chose you first.”
“I did too many things that made Laura believe I didn’t love her.”
“I didn’t explain, I didn’t trust her, and I didn’t take care of her.”
“It wasn’t until she left that I realized it wasn’t that I had never loved her.”
“It was that I took her love for granted, so I did nothing.”
Tears welled in Vanessa’s eyes.
“Then what about me?”
Garrett was silent for a moment.
“I loved you.”
“But from the moment you deleted that call, our past ended, too.”
Vanessa finally broke down, sobbing.
“What if I hadn’t deleted it?”
Garrett remembered what Laura had said on the phone.
There is no if.
He turned and walked away.
The Ferris wheel rose to its highest point, lights spilling over the empty carriages and the ground below.
The two people who had once believed in forever never looked back.
